Equipment

All youth wrestlers must have wrestling shoes, wrestling headgear and a water bottle with your wrestler’s name on it.

Singlet: A RJW singlet will be provided to each wrestler.  Please reach out to your coach to ensure you receive the right size.

Headgear: Wrestlers wear headgear to protect their ears from injury.  The headgear consists of padded ear cups connected by straps that secure it to the head. Headgear is mandatory in many wrestling competitions to prevent cauliflower ear, a condition caused by repeated trauma to the ear.

Wrestling head wraps: All wrestlers with long hair are required to wear headwraps to keep their hair secure and prevent it from interfering with their vision during matches.

Wrestling Shoes: Wrestling shoes are lightweight, low-cut and designed to provide traction on the mat. They have a thin sole to allow wrestlers to feel the mat and maintain a good grip. The snug fit of wrestling shoes helps to support the feet and ankles during matches.

Knee Pads: Wrestlers often wear knee pads to protect their knees from impact and abrasion, especially when shooting for takedowns or executing certain other moves off the knee. Knee pads are typically made of neoprene or similar materials.

Mouthguard: Some wrestlers choose to wear a mouthguard for added protection of the teeth and jaw during matches. While not always mandatory, it can be beneficial in preventing dental injuries.
